Reaching a $2 million Milestone - Thank You!

We are extremely pleased to report the 2012-13 fundraising year was a huge success.  More than $200,000 was raised for the FOURTH year in a row!  But the best news is, we eclipsed more than $2 million in total funds raised by Coaches vs. Cancer ® of Penn State to support the American Cancer Society (ACS) and provide direct aid to those fighting the disease in the Centre Region.  We could not have achieved this level of success without our loyal sponsors and major donors, dozens of dedicated volunteers, and the amazing generosity of our entire community.  Funds raised continue to support the ACS patient services like Road to Recovery and Hope Lodge, life-saving research such as that conducted by Dr. Lorraine Santy and Dr. Syiang Zheng at Penn State, and an annual grant to the Bob Perks Cancer Assistance Fund, serving local families and individuals affected by cancer who are in financial need and have nowhere else to turn for help.

THANK YOU to everyone who participated in this year’s golf tournament.  We are extremely grateful to our lead sponsors: Sheetz, Inc., HRI, Inc., Mount Nittany Health, and Centre Concrete.  Their loyalty and support, along with that of all of the other sponsors, are very much appreciated.  Thank you also to all our “Captains.”   It takes a team effort to pull off a top-notch tournament such as ours, and we couldn’t do it without our alumni and friends that come back each year. We’d be remiss if we didn’t also thank Medlar Field at Lubrano Park for hosting the Sponsor/Captain Reception and Penn State Athletics for use of the Mount Nittany Club in Beaver Stadium for the Awards Dinner.

2014 is shaping up to be another fantastic year, and we invite you to join in on all the fun for this great cause.

  The Coach

Introduced as just the 12th head coach in Nittany Lion basketball history in June 2011, Patrick Chambers quickly energized the Penn State fan base with his passion and enthusiasm and his team's all-out style of play.  Attitude is the name of the game for everything Patrick Chambers does.  He and the Nittany Lion basketball program live by the motto of approaching adversity with a choice. You can either face challenges with a positive attitude or dwell on them with a negative attitude.

“We strive within our basketball program to reach a standard of excellence from our players, coaches and staff.  We believe the same standard, with energy and enthusiasm, can be applied to Coaches vs. Cancer ® (CVC) of Penn State to make it one of the most successful programs in the country helping the American Cancer Society provide support.  We’ve had challenges, as a basketball team and in our daily lives, but we always strive to meet them and overcome them.  As I tell the players, if you stay focused with your attitude, you can accomplish anything.  It takes a team effort to make a difference in the fight against cancer in our community and beyond, and that’s our goal.”

The CVC Golf Tournament is the flagship event of the organization created to raise funds year-round to support the American Cancer Society.  It has more than doubled in size since it began in 1997, and there could not be a better man with a better attitude continuing to lead the Penn State CVC fight than Coach Chambers.

With the funds raised in 2013, the CVC eclipsed $2 million raised in the fight against cancer. While it was a fun day on the golf course, the bigger fight cannot be stated enough.
